On 26 April 2005, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued a silver collector coin of a face value of HUF 5,000 called the ‘Diósgyőr Castle’. The coin is the second in the series called ‘Hungarian Castles’.
The obverse of the coin portrays a knight from the Middle Ages, with his spear thrust between the digits ‘5’ and ‘0’ of the ‘5,000’ indication of value in the upper half of the coin. The reverse features the Diósgyőr Castle.
The coin was designed by the sculptor Enikő Szöllőssy.
Made from silver of 925 ‰ fineness and its edge milled, it weighs 31.46 grams and is 38.61 mm in diameter.
The maximum number of coins to be minted is 8,000, 4,000 of which will be proof coins.
The coins are available for sale at Magyar Pénzverő Rt., Könyves Kálmán körút 38. and in the shop in the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s Visitor Centre (Budapest, Szabadság tér 8/9.). The coins are sold at face value for three months from the date of their issuance.
