On 22 June 2006 the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued the silver collector coin “Fertő Cultural Landscape” with a face value of HUF 5,000 as a continuation of its series “World Heritage Sites in Hungary”.
On the obverse of the coin a great white heron in flight is depicted. The reverse is divided by a curved line across the centre. In the top half there is the Fertő-Neusiedler Lake with shoreside reeds in the foreground and the outline of Mount Schneeberg in the background, while in the bottom half there is the inscription “FERTŐ CULTURAL LANDSCAPE” with a depiction of the Esterházy Palace in Fertőd beneath it.
The coin was designed by the sculptor Virág Szabó.
The coin is made of .925 fine silver, weighs 31.46 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a reeded edge.
10,000 coins may be struck, of which 5,000 are produced by the special “proof” technology.
The coin may be purchased from the Hungarian Mint Ltd. (Budapest, Könyves Kálmán körút 38) or from the shop in the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s Visitor Centre (Budapest, Szabadság tér 8/9). The coin is available at face value for three months from its date of issue.
