On 15 November 2007 the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued a silver collector coin “800th anniversary of the birth of St Elisabeth of the House of Arpad” with a face value of HUF 5,000.
The motif of the obverse is taken from the shrine of St Elisabeth in Marburg, which shows St Elisabeth of the House of Arpad giving alms to the needy, while on the reverse St Elisabeth is depicted with roses, recalling her famous miracle of the roses, and with a loaf of bread in her left hand.
The coin was designed by Enikő Szöllőssy.
The coin is made of .925 fine silver, weighs 31.46 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a reeded edge.
12,000 coins may be struck, of which 8,000 are produced by the special proof technology.
The coin may be purchased from the Hungarian Mint Ltd., Budapest, Könyves Kálmán körút 38, or from the shop in the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s Visitor Centre. The coin is available at face value for three months from its date of issue.
