On 21 January 2008 the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued a gold collector coin with a face value of HUF 50,000 called the “550th anniversary of the ascension to the throne of Mátyás Hunyadi”.
On the obverse of the coin, apart from the obligatory elements, there is a raven holding a ring in its beak – a reference to the arms of Mátyás Hunyadi –, while on the reverse there is a portrait of Mátyás Hunyadi based on a marble relief made by an Italian master, which is kept in the Hungarian National Gallery.
The coin was designed by László Szlávics Jnr.
The collector coin is made of .986 fine gold, weighs 10 grams, and has a diameter of 25 mm and a smooth edge.
5,000 coins may be struck by the special “proof” technology.
The coin may be purchased from the Hungarian Mint Ltd. (Budapest, Könyves Kálmán körút 38) or from the shop in the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s Visitor Centre. The coin is available at face value for three months from its date of issue.
