Today in Debrecen, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank will issue a non-ferrous metal collector coin with a face value of 3,000 forints entitled ‘Magyar Gyermekorvosok Társasága’ (‘The Hungarian Paediatricians Association) at the assembly of the Association celebrating its 100th anniversary. The collector coin was designed by applied artist Andrea Horváth.

The Hungarian Paediatricians Association is one of Hungary’s most prominent scientific paediatric organisations. Under the chairmanship of János Bókay, its founding was prepared by a committee composed of Ármin Fleschm, Pál Heim and Ferenc Torday. Ever since its first meeting on 14 December 1924, the Association has been serving the health and well-being of children. Over the course of the past century, they have contributed to preserving the health of 15 million children. Even though the paediatric profession has undergone considerable development, the tenets on which the Association was built remain its guiding principles: healing based on scientific knowledge, protecting children’s health, supporting families, and uniting the professional community.

The MNB is issuing a non-ferrous metal collector coin with a face value of 3,000 forints entitled ‘Magyar Gyermekorvosok Társasága’; its primary role is to store value and raise awareness.  It’s use in everyday payments transactions should be avoided. The face value displayed on the collector coin is meant to preserve its value to collectors.

The obverse of the ‘Magyar Gyermekorvosok Társasága’ collector coin features a composition referring to the Association’s science-based healing activity, with a representation of a stethoscope ‘resting’ atop two specialized textbooks. In addition to the thematic motif, the obverse features the compulsory design elements of collector coins: above in a semi-circular legend, the inscription ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’ (HUNGARY); below, in two lines, the denomination ‘3000’ and the inscription ‘FORINT’. Under the composition also in two lines the minting year ‘2024’ and the mint mark ‘BP.’ are found. The designer’s mark of Andrea Horváth, was placed on the spine of the lower specialized textbook.

The reverse of the ’Magyar Gyermekorvosok Társasága’ collector coin features as its central motif a female doctor examining an infant, which in its composition also refers to the Association’s official logo, as visible next to the vignette. The upper semi-circular legend spells out the full name of the Association; the collector coin’s message is completed by the lower semi-circular legend ‘100 ÉVE A GYERMEKEK GYÓGYÍTÁSÁÉRT’ (100 YEARS OF HEALING OF CHILDREN), which is the motto of the Association and which reflects the reason for this issuance. The circular legends are connected on each side by a heart motif.
