The Magyar Nemzeti Bank will issue a commemorative version of the HUF 50 circulation coin on the occasion of the World Championship Division I Group A to be held in Hungary. Two million pieces of the special metal coin will be put into circulation, of which 12,000 coins in decorative packaging as first day mint (in BU finish) and 5,000 pieces in special proof finish as part of the 2018 circulation coin series.
The obverse of the 50 forint coins to be issued is identical with that of the 50 forint coin denomination currently in circulation; however, replacing the usual saker falcon the thematic side features the most relevant scene in ice hockey where a player takes a shot on the goal. The figure taken from the emblem of the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation is also shown on this side of the coin. The reverse of the coin was designed by István Kósa. The technical parameters of the coin are identical to the 50 forint coins used in circulation: it is produced from an alloy of copper (75%) and nickel (25%). It weighs 7.70 grams, it is 27.4 mm in diameter, and it has a 1.8 mm high smooth edge.
