A conference on the future of education, entitled ‘The Future of Education - The Education of the Future’, was held in Budapest with support from the Magyar Nemzeti Bank. The event featured keynote speakers Dr Chris Howard, Executive Vice President of Arizona State University (ASU), and Dr Rick Shangraw, President of Cintana Education, who highlighted the key success factors for universities of the future: innovation, technological development and global collaboration.
Dr Howard presented ASU’s strategy, which is centred around inclusive, broadly available education and technological innovation. He highlighted that ASU has by now become one of the world’s leading universities in online education, which enables students to have a flexible and personalised learning experience. The University also offers further training opportunities to tens of thousands of students through partnerships with large companies such as Starbucks. Dr Howard emphasised that ASU’s mission is to seek out talent from as wide a pool as possible, while making a positive impact in education and innovation.
Dr Shangraw, President of Cintana Education, also emphasised the importance of global university partnerships and the role of collaboration between financial institutions and universities. Dr Shangraw spoke in detail about new opportunities in the use of innovative technologies and urged greater use of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain systems in higher education. He said the partnership between Arizona State University and Budapest Metropolitan University could serve as a good example of how to make higher education more widely available.
Both speakers concluded that the key elements for the future of education are technological progress, the use of innovative solutions and the broadening of international cooperation to the extent possible. Participants in the event’s panel discussion agreed that education systems must be prepared for the challenges of a rapidly changing world and that education institutions must play a key role in creating a sustainable future.
