Budapest, 28 January 2025 – On the occasion of the centenary of the establishment of Hungary’s independent central bank, the Financial and Economic Review, is publishing a commemorative thematic issue in tribute to the 100-year history and the activities of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the central bank of Hungary (MNB), containing studies by the Governor of the MNB and renowned foreign and domestic central bank and monetary policy experts. This publication includes the Chinese translation of this issue and a conference report in one volume.
The latest Chinese-language volume of our journal was published by the MNB on 28 January 2025, before the Chinese Lunar New Year. The studies express thoughts on the Bank’s mission, its independence and monetary stability, fiscal risks, hyperinflation, fighting inflation, monetary policy, the impact of monetary policy institutional decisions on convergence and reserve requirements. A feature article, written by Chinese authors, provides a review on the China-Hungary Green Bond Cooperation and we report on the Budapest Renminbi Initiative Conference.
The authors of our studies include György Matolcsy, the Governor of the MNB, Barry Eichengreen, Harold James, Manoj Pradhan, Charles Goodhart, Paul De Grauwe, Yuemei Ji, Reiner Martin, Piroska Nagy Mohácsi, György Szapáry, Balázs Vonnák, István Ábel, Pierre L. Siklos, Csaba Csávás, Pál Péter Kolozsi and Ádám Banai.
In 2025, the Editorial Board of the Financial and Economic Review decided to continue the initiative started seven years ago and to produce a special issue comprising selected papers in Chinese. Our goal is to ensure that the prominent analyses of our journal reach one of the fastest growing scientific workshops in the world with the largest number of members. The widespread interest in these publications also proves that this Chinese-language scientific educational journal is a gap-filling initiative.
As the publisher of this scientific journal, the MNB intends to contribute primarily to the dissemination of scientific knowledge and the further deepening of Sino-Hungarian economic diplomatic relations with the publication in Chinese.
The papers in the Chinese-language issue are available on the website of the Financial and Economic Review: https://hitelintezetiszemle.mnb.hu/cn/financial-and-economic-review
We wish you a very pleasant reading.
