Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, wins this year’s Lamfalussy Award

The President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde received the Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), György Matolcsy, Vice-Governors Barnabás Virág and Csaba Kandrács, and Director General at her office. At the meeting, György Matolcsy, who led the MNB delegation, presented this year’s Lamfalussy Award to the President of the ECB. During the meeting, economic developments and challenges ahead were discussed.

The Lamfalussy Conference, to be held for the tenth time on 27 January this year, is the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s flagship international event. Prior to the Conference, Governor György Matolcsy paid an official visit to the European Central Bank, during which he presented this year’s recipient, ECB President Christine Lagarde, with the Lamfalussy Award.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Governor György Matolcsy stressed that the MNB not only honours Christine Lagarde’s outstanding professional achievements, but also recognises her efforts to build a stable, innovative and sustainable future for Europe. The Governor said: ‘Her entire life’s work reminds us that a united Europe – driven by sustainability and innovation – can overcome all challenges and lead the way to a brighter, more prosperous future.’

After receiving the award, Christine Lagarde gave a speech thanking for the recognition, which was recorded on camera and will be screened at the Lamfalussy Lectures Conference.
