The G30, established in 1978, is an independent non-profit organisation comprised of the world’s most respected and influential economists, serving international advisory functions. The institute’s current Chief Executive Officer is Stuart P.M. Mackintosh, with Tharman Shanmugaratnam serving as the Chairman of the Board, Jacob A. Frenkel as Chairman Emeritus, and Jean-Claude Trichet as Honorary Chairman. The G30’s primary mission is to enhance financial and economic stability, with the aim of fostering a deeper understanding of developments in the international economy and the world of finance. The group’s work significantly influences the current and future structure of the global financial system, by developing direct recommendations for decision-makers in public and private sectors alike.

The group holds two Plenary Sessions annually, and organises the International Banking Seminar every year, traditionally held on the occasion of the autumn meetings of the IMF and the World Bank. This invitation-only event brings together the world’s leading central bank governors, financial sector executives, scholars and academics to discuss the global and systemic issues affecting the financial sector. The organisation publishes an annual report, in addition to its regular publications covering the full spectrum of economic and financial policy matters.
