In 2007, the Bank reviewed the activities which were consistent with this objective and found that many programmes were already underway at the initiative of Bank staff. As a result, waste (primarily paper, plastic and dry battery) has been collected separately for years now. An increasing number of staff choose to bike to work; the Bank supports this activity by developing bicycle parking spaces and showers. In addition to these activities which are mainly related to environment protection, the Bank has also launched actions more closely related to its core tasks. Of these, steps to enhance financial literacy play a very important role. Under this programme, the Bank, joining forces with organisations involved in consumer protection activities and the financial market, has launched a broad-based educational campaign to raise households’ expertise in financial matters.
